RICK RITTER: US HISTORY, HONORS US HISTORY, AP US HISTORY, AP PSYCHOLOGY
Rick Ritter graduated with a BA in history from UNC Wilmington and has his NC Teaching Licensure in psychology, history, and social studies. Mr. Ritter has been an educator for the last 20 years and before joining the CCHS faculty in 2012, he taught at Topsail High School and Isaac Bear Early College High School where he served as the History Department Chairman. During his tenure, Mr. Ritter has received the following recognitions: in 1994 the Chancellor Academic Award, 2002 a National Teacher Certification, and 2010-2011 the IBEC Teacher of the Year. Mr. Ritter has been an active member of Christ Community Church since 2001.
BILL SIMPSON: AMERICAN GOVERNMENT, HONORS AMERICAN GOVERNMENT, HONORS ECONOMICS
Bill Simpson graduated from NC State's College of Engineering and ten years later earned a Master's degree from Columbia International University's seminary in Columbia, SC. He has enjoyed a most colorful and very diverse career including: engineering sales/design, business ownership, church planter/field director in Senegal, West Africa with SIM, senior pastor, worship pastor, leadership consultant, wedding officiant and founder of a nonprofit. Bill has also authored two books: How to Ask God - for What He Wants to Give You and Take 10 to Menó. Bill & Tammy have been happily married since 1981 and have two grown children, both of whom are married (but no grandkids yet). You can access his books and blog at www.billsimpson.org. JENEAL BUNN: ENGLISH II, HONORS ENGLISH II
Jeneal Bunn joined the faculty of CCHS in 2012 after devoting over 30 years as a public school educator. Mrs. Bunn received her BA degree in education with concentrations in English and history from Methodist University and began teaching in Fayetteville, NC at Anne Chesnutt Jr. High School. While teaching full-time, she completed graduate work and received her MA in education from Fayetteville State University and founded and coached the first forensics club in Cumberland County Schools. After moving to Wilmington, Mrs. Bunn began teaching language arts and social studies at Myrtle Grove Middle School. She served in several roles at MGM: writing the curriculum and teaching the first direct-instruction reading remediation class, leading the Language Arts department, assisting with FCA, and student mentoring. A wife and mother of two, Mrs. Bunn and her family are active members of Trinity United Methodist Church where she has led as president of the United Methodist Women, lay delegate to Annual Conference, Sunday school teacher, and youth leader. She has worshipped at Trinity for more than 20 years.

RENEE HUNTER: ENGLISH I
Renee Hunter joined the staff of Coastal Christian High School in the fall of 2014 as a part time teacher of English 1. Before serving as a teacher, she served at Coastal as a regular substitute for several years. Mrs. Hunter has lived in Wilmington all of her life. She graduated from UNC Wilmington with a BA in English and a secondary education teaching certification in May, 1976. She has had her hands and heart in education for forty years, and has taught almost every grade level. Mrs. Hunter is married to Wesley Hunter and is the mother of two sons. She is “Mami” to five children who are the apples of her eye. She is active at Winter Park Baptist Church where she and her husband partner to lead mission trips to Haiti and Mexico. She teaches children’s Sunday school and facilitates a Women’s Bible study group. Mrs. Hunter is the founder and president of Hope Changes Everything, Inc., a nonprofit organization whose mission is to give impoverished children a chance to hope through Christian education in Grand Goave, Haiti.
KELLY LECCI: HONORS ENGLISH IV, AP LANGUAGE, AP LITERATURE
Kelly Lecci is a graduate of UNC Wilmington, where she earned a BA in English and received her NC Teaching License in English. Upon graduation, she taught AP Literature, English IV, and Honors English 1 for three years at Pender High School. Mrs. Lecci is happily married to Len, and they have two children, Bella and Luke. Mrs. Lecci and her family worship at Winter Park Baptist Church, where she has been an active member since 1998. She serves as a small group leader for both the middle school and high school girls at her church. For the last three years, she has held the chair position in the group Women in God’s Service. While serving as chair, she organized numerous community outreach events and spiritual conferences. Mrs. Lecci has also played an active role in missions at her church, including leading teams to Mexico and Nicaragua, and organizing several Stop Hunger Now meal-packaging events in Wilmington.
HEATHER SZNURKOWSKI: HONORS ENGLISH I, HONORS ENGLISH III, YEARBOOK
Heather Sznurkowski graduated Cum Laude from UNC Wilmington with a BA in English, a Spanish Minor, and an NC Teaching License in English. Mrs. Sznurkowski began her teaching career in Pender County, teaching at Pender High School for two years followed by a position at Trask High School for two years. In 2004, Mrs. Sznurkowski stepped out of the classroom to raise her children, Matthew, Andrew, and Ava. During this time, she worked as a scorer for the SAT essay and many other state tests across the country. In 2015, Mrs. Sznurkowski started her own business as a private SAT/ACT and writing tutor, while working part time for Cape Fear Academy as a skills teacher. Mrs. Sznurkowski is happily married to her husband Rick, and their family attends The Refinery in Wilmington.
JILL BARROW: HONORS ALGEBRA II, HONORS GEOMETRY, AP CALCULUS
Jill Barrow is originally from Maryland, where she attended high school and was her senior class salutatorian. Ms. Barrow graduated from the University of Delaware with a BA in mathematics, followed by a Master of Education from Loyola College of Maryland. She has taught secondary mathematics for more than 25 years and has been a Mathematics Department Chair. Ms. Barrow joined our faculty from Topsail High School. She is certified to teach AP Calculus, has her NC Professional Educator’s License, and has her ACSI Professional Teaching Certificate in secondary mathematics. She has also raised two grown children and now enjoys making memories with her three grandchildren. Jill and her husband, Joe Miller, attend St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
PRICSILLA DONATHAN: ALGEBRA II, HONORS PRE-CALCULUS, HONORS CALCULUS
Pricsilla Donathan was born and raised in Winston-Salem until she left home to attend NC State University. Mrs. Donathan ultimately graduated from UNCW with a degree in secondary mathematics education. She worked in the New Hanover School system for 38 years, retiring in 2012. During her tenure, Mrs. Donathan served on the faculty for Sunset Park Junior High, Hoggard High School, Ashley High School, and Wilmington Early College High School. Mrs. Donathan was named “Teacher of the Year” and Math Department Chair at Sunset Park before moving on to teach at the high school level. Mrs. Donathan has also been an item writer for the state of NC for the EOC’s as well as an item reviewer.
SHELBY SMITH: GEOMETRY, ALGEBRA II, BIBLE SURVEY
Shelby Smith, a 2011 alum of CCHS, graduated Cum Laude from Harding University in December 2015 with a BA in Mathematics with Secondary Licensure. In the spring semester of 2016, Shelby worked as an Administrative Assistant at Coastal working in the office, co-teaching Algebra 1 and Geometry, and assistant coaching Varsity Girls Basketball and Varsity Girls Soccer. Shelby is currently working on her Masters of Mathematics Education at East Carolina University. She is very excited to become Mrs. Buterbaugh in July of 2018.
BEN TREECE: ALGEBRA I, EARTH & ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE, MISSION OF CHRISTIANITY
Ben Treece graduated from NC State in 2005 with a BS in Textile Engineering. He then went on to serve seven years in full time ministry working with college students on staff with Cru (formally knows as Campus Crusade for Christ). Ben finished his Master of Arts in Teaching from UNCW in 2015 and spent the 20015-16 school year teaching 8th grade science at Williston Middle School. He is excited to be a part of the CCHS team and will be teaching Mission of Christianity along with Algebra I. He loves sports and surfing, but more importantly loves spending time with his family. He has been married to his amazing wife Meredith since 2013. They have a daughter named Charlotte and are eagerly waiting the arrival of a son in October. Ben and Meredith are members of Northside Baptist Church.
ELIZABETH McDONALD: BIOLOGY, HONORS BIOLOGY, HONORS ANATOMY, PHYSICAL SCIENCE
Elizabeth Alexander McDonald is a Wilmington native. She graduated with Distinction from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a BS in Biology/UNC-BEST (Baccalaureate in Science Teaching). While attending UNC-CH she was a Young Life leader and she spent a semester overseas in the Philippines working with Kids International Ministries. Mrs. McDonald has taught previously at Cary High School and EA Laney High School. Mrs. McDonald and her husband, Caleb, attend The Bridge Church.
JENNIFER HARTNETT: CHEMISTRY, HONORS CHEMISTRY, PHYSICS
Jennifer Hartnett is a lifelong Christian from Edenton, N.C. She graduated with her Masters in Secondary Education from Grand Canyon University. She is a member of the American Modeling Teachers Association in which she received training from N.C. State Universities “The Science House”. She was a science teacher at Laney High School for three years. Jennifer is a mother of five children and feels joyful to become a part of God’s mission here at CCHS.
BRITTANY WILLIAMSON: SPANISH I, SPANISH II, HONORS SPANISH III
Brittany Williamson graduated in May of 2010 from North Carolina State University. She earned a BA in Spanish language and Spanish literature. Ms. Williamson also earned concentrations in entomology and Latin American history. She was a competition cheerleader in both high school and at NCSU. Her career began in 2010 with a Spanish position at Coastal Christian High School. In addition to teaching, Ms. Williamson plans, organizes, and executes Homecoming week. She attends The Bridge Church here in Wilmington.
FINE ARTS DEPARTMENT
KARI BOUTHILLET: ART I
Kari Bouthillet was born and raised in Hampton Roads, Virginia. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Old Dominion University. Mrs. Bouthillet began her teaching career in the Virginia public schools, and most recently, filled in as a substitute teacher at Mrytle Grove Christian School. Mrs. Bouthillet moved to Wilmington in 2015 with her wonderful husband, Devin, and their dog, Chance. The Bouthillets attend Lifepoint Church.
GABRIEL LOVEJOY: HONORS DRAWING/PAINTING, HONORS STUDIO ART, AP STUDIO ART – 2D DESIGN
Gabriel Lovejoy is a native of southeastern North Carolina. He received his BA in Studio Art from UNC Wilmington and an MFA in Painting from The Savannah College of Art and Design. Mr. Lovejoy was the very first faculty member hired at CCHS in 2006. In addition to his teaching position at Coastal, he teaches at Cape Fear Community College, The Cameron Art Museum, and The Savannah College of Art and Design in the summer months. He is also a board member on the Arts Council of Wilmington and NHC and juggles a successful graphic design business and painting career. Mr. Lovejoy’s work can be seen in businesses and exhibitions throughout the country. Mr. Lovejoy also serves as Coastal’s Art Director, overseeing and designing all of the school’s promotional materials. He is married to an amazing wife and they are proud parents of two young boys. The Lovejoys attend Saint Andrews on the Sound.
AMY TUCKER-MORGAN: VOCAL FUNDEMENTALS, HONORS ENSEMBLE, DRAMA
Amy Tucker Morgan graduated Summa cum Laude from Augustana College, Sioux Falls with a BA in elementary education, followed by a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from East Carolina University. She is originally from South Dakota where she was the valedictorian of her senior class at Mitchell High School. Mrs. Tucker-Morgan has taught music at East Carolina University, Hoggard High School, Noble Middle School, and Parsley Elementary School. She has been a past New Hanover County teacher of the year recipient and was published in the ACDA Choral Journal. Mrs. Tucker-Morgan plays the harp, piano, and flute. She is an active member and the adult choir director at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church.
STEPHEN MORGAN: HONORS INSTRUMENTAL ENSEMBLE, HONORS MUSIC THEORY
Stephen Morgan graduated from East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Music Education degree, followed by his Master of Music in Instrumental Conducting. He has 33 years of experience teaching at all grade levels including instruction in concert, symphonic, jazz ensemble, music theory, and AP music theory classes. He was a Graduate Conducting Fellow at ECU, received the NCBA Award of Excellence, and was the MGMS teacher of the year. Mr. Morgan has played trumpet with the NC Opera Company, Jimmy Dorsey Band, Four Tops, Spinners, OJs, Temptations, and the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Morgan is a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church.
STERLING GRIGGS: MISSION OF CHRISTIANITY, BIBLE SURVEY
Sterling has been involved in Christian ministry since 1990, serving with children, students, college, and in a teaching pastor role. He graduated from Wake Forest University in 1992 and then Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2001 with a Masters in Divinity degree. Sterling moved from Southport to Wilmington with his family in June 2017 where his wife, Kellie, is a Professor in the Nursing Program at UNCW. He is passionate about walking along and mentoring students as well as teaching all things Bible, theology, and culture. Sterling and Kellie have four children - Chandler, Reynolds, Deacon, and Emmerson - as well as Bubba the cat.
AARON MARSHALL: HONORS APOLOGETICS
Aaron Marshall moved to Wilmington in 2012 to start a Ratio Christi chapter at UNCW. Ratio Christi (Latin for “the reason of Christ”) is an international ministry that focuses on helping people to understand the evidence for Christianity and specifically targets the universities. Mr. Marshall is now the Ratio Christi Regional Director for North and South Carolina with a goal of establishing a chapter at each university in the Carolinas. Mr. Marshall is a licensed attorney in North Carolina and practiced law full time for 8 years before transitioning to fulltime ministry. He earned his undergraduate degree from Virginia Tech as a business major and then pursued his JD at The University of Texas, Austin School of Law. He also has an MA in apologetics from Southern Evangelical Seminary and is now working on finishing his MA in philosophy from there as well. He is married to Jessalyn and they have five children.
RUSTIN SMITH: MISSION OF CHRISTIANITY, GRAPHIC DESIGN
Having grown up the son of an Air Force fighter pilot for 38 years, Rustin Smith has experienced much in culture and travel. Most of his life was spent traveling at a younger age across the country and eventually a few places in Europe to start his college career. After landing in Wilmington in the early 90’s, the Lord took him through an array of occupations until calling him into ministry. Now the associate pastor at Myrtle Grove Baptist for students and family ministry, he is finishing his Master’s degree at Dallas Theological Seminary. He is passionate about the Lord and has a great desire for students to step into leadership roles and prepare them to take-on life for what God has desired for them. He has an amazing wife who helps him in ministry and 2 daughters: one entering Coastal as a freshman this year and one in the first grade. He is so excited to be a part of what God is doing at Coastal and seeking the will of the Lord for all the students God is sending here.
BRIAN KURTZ: HEALTH/PE, WORLD HISTORY, HONORS WORLD HISTORY, AP GOVERNMENT
Brian Kurtz is a graduate of UNCW in 2008 with a BA in History and a BA in Applied Geography. He has been a member of the Coastal Christian High School basketball and soccer programs since the fall of 2013, serving as an assistant for men’s soccer, men’s and women’s basketball, and now is the head women’s soccer coach. Coach Brian has a wide range of work experience ranging from working in the city planning office of Wilmington, working as a sous chef, and in counseling. He took over the physical education department in the spring of 2016 and now serves as the head of the physical education department, as well as, teaching history. Brian is a member of the Basilica Shrine of St. Mary in downtown Wilmington.
